Who am I and how do I meet the challenges ahead?
From Sleeping Freshman Never Lie by David Lubar:
"Up front, Mr. Franka was talking about similes, metaphors, and other descriptive language... Anyhow, time crawled along like a sleepwalking snail dragging a history book" (63).
I hope that you don't have these feelings in our classroom. My hope is for this class to be one that you enter and are active within. It'll take your commitment to participation, thinking critically, reading critically, and writing critically.
Our focus is more of a thematic wandering through the textbook and supplemental books, while we explore how those themes relate to ourselves and our world. We will read a number of pieces and you will create a wide variety of responses to those pieces. I've taught this course for the past 9 years and I really love teaching freshman. I'm here to help this year run as smoothly as possible for you, so please ask for help along the way should you need it.
