Hunter vs. the Hunted
Consider this quote by Bei Dao: "Freedom is nothing more than the distance between the hunter and the hunted." What do you take this to mean? Do agree or disagree? Why? What examples can you provide to support your stance?

Journal 2: Innocence
- Collier writes, “Innocence involves an unseeing acceptance of things at face value, and ignorance of the area below the surface. In that humiliating moment I looked beyond myself and into the depths of another person. This was the beginning of compassion, and one cannot have both compassion and innocence”
- What do you interpret her to mean? What evidence from the text supports your claims?
- Do you agree with her definition of innocence and her assertion that you “cannot have both compassion and innocence”? Why or why not?
